Nagui Achamallah was born in Alexandria, Egypt. His interest in painting developed in College. While studying to become a physician, he joined the independent fine art study program at the University of Alexandria Atelier. As a student, Nagui participated in several University group shows and competitions and won several scholastic awards. In 1973, he had his first Solo show at the University Physician's Club in Alexandria. His second show was held at the French Cultural Center in Alexandria in 1975. After graduation, he practiced Medicine until he came to the USA in 1981. Between 1981 and 1989, he pursued a career as a college professor. And in 1989, he enrolled in a Psychiatry residency training program. He is now a practicing psychiatrist in the San Francisco Bay area.

He continued to paint over the years, but did not start showing again until December of 1996. Although he maintains a full time medical practice, He produces 40 to 50 medium and large size paintings in addition to many small size paintings and drawings each year. His main medium is Oil. The subjects of Nagui's paintings are varied. His style that has evolved over the last thirty years reflects a Middle Eastern and a South Mediterranean influence. Many of the paintings depict human figures. The characters are involved in a struggle. They are captives of time, instincts, fears, and the reason for their existence.
