During 1982, I created a work based on Straight Lines and titled it as Drawing No.I. This decision to call it number one was consciously made as if I was setting a course for myself to follow for the years to come. A seed was thus planted to germinate and grow. Each successive work has then been identified with the next number.
A straight line is pure, unsentimental and unconditional of any subjective feelings; however, when placed in conjunction with other lines. It may evoke different emotions and moods. It is this aspect, which I have been trying to explore from the last few years.
I search my image with straight lines. A line is placed in the picture area. It is allowed to develop & establish its own identity, play in the space around it and act in relation with other lines. Line by line – the image is built and is allowed to develop. A form is thus created and realized like realization of truth.

I do not know from where it has come. It is compulsive activity, partially spontaneous & partially intellectual. The image is free from any pre-conceived thoughts, notions and ideas. It is beyond recognition in terms of man made or nature made objects or realities and tensions of life.
I continue to search in this direction. Lines have gradually grown on & around me. I search for Lines everywhere. I have never looked back and left my past pseudo- socio- impressionistic trends in my works far behind me.
I nurse my works with devotion & toil. These are my play games through which I experience an unending ways to explore my creative urge. These are my inner Lines of Vision that I want to share with outside world.
